Blake’s first podium finish in Round 6 of the 2020 Summer Shootout brought him his first Summer Shootout Trophy. Over the last five years of racing, Blake has collected a fair amount of hardware, including more than 30 trophies. They take up three shelves in his bedroom. Many were won in karting events across New England, as well as two regional karting championships in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Other trophies were won in Legends races in the South. More important then the trophy is what each award represents: hard work, determination, focus as well as hours, weeks, months and years logged on the asphalt in all kinds of weather and conditions. But this week’s trophy will always have special significance to him as it is his first at the Shootout and the first Shootout trophy for the NASCAR D4D/ Rev team in 2020.

Blake takes top spot in Round Four Heat Race of Summer Shootout
Blake started on pole and held the spot for a P1 win in the Semi-Pro heats in Round Four of the CMS Summer Shootout last night. He defended his P1 heat position against the other 10 drivers throughout the entire heat race. Then the weather got crazy. After more than an hour of lightning and rain delays, out came the rain tires. That’s when the slippin’ and slidin’ started on the wet track. Blake started the feature race in P12 and worked his way up to P7 before a wreck sent him to the back of the 22 car field. With only 5 laps to go he worked his way back up to P15. On to Rounds 5 and 6 next Monday and Tuesday and let’s hope for some better weather!

Blake explains to Wellesley school kids how NASCAR drivers are hitting the virtual track
Now that NASCAR is taking a break like the rest of us, NASCAR drivers, including Blake and the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Development Team (D4D) are practicing and competing virtually through iRacing. This week Blake took a few minutes during one of his daily practices to explain how sim racing works to some local school kids at the Fiske School where Blake’s mom teaches. Blake’s simulator is set up just like the inside of a real race car with gas and break pedals, a real steering wheel and seat and shifting capability. During these virtual races, Blake will pit and keep his eyes on tire and oil pressure… just like he would in a real race.
